When am I allowed a cheat meal?

So when you hear the term cheat meal, what's the first thing you think of? Up until recently for me, it was "...the only time of the week I get to eat anything good."

Well, I WAS RAISED ITALIAN. You can't just, take good food away from me. No sir. I like my olive oil and my carbs. Well, check this out about olive oil. It can lower the chance of heart disease and stroke. Just another reason to enjoy some healthy fats in your diet.

Back to cheat meals. What are they exactly? For me, I make them what I've been craving all week. Sushi, a steak, mashed potatoes, chicken dip. Pretty much anything.

How often do I have them? Truthfully, two or three times a week. I'm not a once-a-week kinda girl. I mean seriously, what's the point of being totally gorgeous and constantly craving foods? It just isn't worth it to me. Enjoy life.

So what can you do to make cheat meals a little better? Plan them out. Today is Valentine's Day, which I think is a fantastic day to enjoy a meal with someone you love. By planning your meals out, it gives you something to look forward to. When I know I have something yummy coming up, I don't want to nibble on pretzels or Poptarts all day.

Don't decline yourself on a special day. If you want to have a nice meal on your birthday, go for it. Seriously. It's ONE DAY. Enjoy it. Your anniversary? That was a day of happiness. Keep it that way. If a pizza and a few beers makes you guys happy, do it!

Since we're engineers, here's some math to prove a point.

365 days in a year. Three meals a day. 1095 meals.
3 bad meals a week. 52 weeks in a year. 156 bad meals.

That leaves us with 939 good meals. 85% of what you eat in a year is good for you. Those numbers aren't too damn bad.
